The some hundred and sixty works illustrate all the main trends within Russian art, beginning with icons of the fourteenth century and concluding with paintings of the 1970s. All have been lent from eighteen Soviet collections, principally from the Tretiakov Gallery, Moscow, and the Russian Museum, Leningrad.
