Clytemnestra plotting her husband's murder, Ophelia criticizing her creator, and a report from Chernobyl all offer the poet occasions for reflections marked by a sophisticated wit and a philosophical probing reminiscent of Wislawa Szymborska or Adam Zagajewski. By turns urgent and ironic, Zabuzhko's poetry stands alongside the finest and most important work to emerge from Europe in the last half century.

Zabuzhko has published more than twenty books which have been translated into fifteen languages. Among her numerous acknowledgments are a MacArthur Grant (2002), the Antonovych International Foundation Prize (2008), the Order of Princess Olga (2009), and the Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine (2019). Her magnum opus, The Museum of Abandoned Secrets (2010, published in English in 2012) won the Angelus Central European Literary Prize (2013) for the best novel of Eastern and Central Europe. Her most recent book is 2020's sensational story collection, Your Ad Could Go Here. Zabuzhko lives in Kiev, where she and her partner, painter Rostyslav Luzhetskyy, operate a small publishing house.
