HISTORY

In 1971, Vladimir Azar opened Globus at 332 Balboa street. Passionate about his first language and Russian culture, he ran the store and a small publishing house GLOBUS PUBLISHING HOUSE AND PRINTERS, publishing books by the Russian immigrants who arrived in the United States during the so-called first and second immigration waves (after the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 and during the Jewish immigration from the Soviet Union in 1970-80s.) The publishing house stopped its operation after Globus changed ownership in 1984. The list of books published by the Globus Publishing House is available on our website.
Veronica Ahrens-Pulawski owned Globus from 1984 to 2018 and won the hearts of San Francisco residents with her dedication to books and literature.
Currently, Globus continues to serve the book lovers in the Inner Richmond area under the new ownership. Our mission is to bring a new perspective on all aspects of the Russian-language culture to the Bay Area. We strive to provide a unique opportunity to learn the cultural background and shed light on its richness and complexity. We plan to hold book talks and events starting next year.
