Alexander Cooper's extraordinary Russian-American heritage is described in such fascinating detail in this, his autobiography and family chronicle, perhaps we need only to note here that he was born at the turn of the century in pre-Revolutionary Vladivostok, Russia, the youngest of an educated and wealthy merchant-class family. His schooling in Russia's highest level institutions only partially completed, his lifestyle and his family sundered by the Bolshevik Revolution and World War I, young Mr. Cooper left his beloved Old Russia for exile in Japan and, finally, to settle in California. There, at The University of California at Berkeley, he continued his education and met and married Natalie, a fellow Russian emigré.
The author during his professional career was supervisor at a large oil refinery in Martinez, California, where he and his wife of some 62 years still reside. Mr. Cooper is now retired, and a proud U.S. citizen. This book is dedicated to his wife Talia.
