Seven themes from the history of the Far East are presented. First, there is the conquest, about which Soviet scholars tended to forget. Pacific discoveries go hand in hand with the conquest. Unknown to scholars is the history of the Far Eastern Studies Society, the oldest scientific organization in the Far East, where V. K. Arsen'ev, the famous writer and ethnographer, worked. These are the third and fourth essays. The fifth essay is about the purges in the Far East, where I give information about how the mechanism worked, and give facts from the biographies of those who murdered their fellow citizens. The sixth essay is about my native city of Vladivostok, which may one day become the capitol of the Far East. A survey of life in the Russian Far East is covered in my final essay.
